15 Storeys High: Series 1 & 2 (DVD) $6.49 Two very different blokes. One small flat. One huge apartment block. It’s bound to go wrong, isn’t it? Especially when one is morose, sullen and mean-spirited and the other is a bright-eyed innocent with a lot to learn about life.Far from expressing the depressing and futile existence commonly associated with high-rises, 15 Storeys High reveals the many idiosyncrasies and hilarious antics of the diverse residents. There’s the man who uses his pitbull as a dumbell, the table-tennis obsessed brothers, the over-the-hill punks and the country and western poet who also fixes washing machines. And of course there’s South London’s very own answer to the Odd couple, Vince and Errol: a match truly made in heaven. |

Madame Storeys Way (Dodo Press) $18.77 William Hulbert Footner (18791944) was a Canadian writer of nonfiction and detective fiction. His first published works were travelogues of canoe trips on the Hudson River and in the Northwest Territory along the Peace River, Hay River and Fraser River. He also wrote a series of northwest adventures during the period 1911 through 1920, including The Sealed Valley (1914) and The Fur Bringers (1920). About 1920 Footner began to write detective fiction. His first series detective character was Madame Rosika Storey. Footners other series detective is Amos Lee Mappin, a successful, middle aged mystery writer whose crimes tend to occur in New Yorks cafe society. Mappin is unusual in that his Watson (at least in some of his tales) is a young woman, his secretary Fanny Parran. She is one of the few female Watsons in fiction, an example of how femaleoriented Footners fiction is. Amongst his other works are: Two on the Trail (1911), New Rivers of the North (1912), Jack Chanty (1913), The Huntress (1917), Thieves Wit (1918), The Substitute Millionaire (1919), The Fur Bringers: A Story of the Canadian Northwest (1920) and The Owl Taxi (1921). Author: Footner, Hulbert Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 102 Publication Date: 2010/03/12 Language: English Dimensions: 5.98 x 9.01 x 0.24 inches |

15 Storeys High – Series 1 and 2 (DVD) $20.43 This comedy series follows the lives of two very different blokes who find themselves sharing a flat in a towerblock on a South London council estate. The flat's owner Vince takes in a new lodger – Errol, and it's not long before he realises he has made a dreadful mistake. '15 Storeys High' also introduces us to some of the other towerblock occupants – wife-swappers, bible bashers, lap dancers, men who shout at the television and even a man who keeps a horse in his spare room. Cast List: Sean Lock , Felix Dexter Running Time: 521 min In a tower block on a council estate in South London, flat owner Vince takes in a new lodger, Errol. It's a big mistake. Errol is a nice, considerate, thoroughly decent bloke who has moved down to London and is working his way through a list of things he wants to achieve in life. (Number 36: drink a cappuccino, number 37: work with fish): Vince is the most sullen man in Britain who, having spent too much time living on his own, lacks both tolerance and social graces. A lifeguard at the local swimming pool, Vince takes great pride in being able to tell swimmers off for no reason and obtains his home decorating ideas from photos in Reeder's Wives. No regular visitors come to visit the two men, as Vince has no friends and Errol feels that any friendships he has made will be jeopardised by his landlord. But that's not to say there are no encounters. What with Rastafarians doing dub reggae workouts, men with Shetland ponies in their spare bedrooms, single mothers salsacising in their living rooms, and dope smoking teenagers inhabiting the lifts…life is a constant whirl of social interaction. Of sorts. |
